People have been plucking strings for millennia of course, to all of our hearts’ delight!
Be that as it may, I won’t start with Roman times — imagine tablature with Roman numerals! Rather, I will begin by touching on the Renaissance approach, work our way through a little Bach and Beethoven, and end up with current techniques and tunes. I’ll explain (succinctly, for novices!) the changes in Western harmony over these centuries, and how folkies and jazz cats alike use harmonies from the same source in their genres.
Bring your guitar in standard tuning and be prepared to play as an ensemble with other attendees (no solos required) as I explain the four pieces we will use. Tab will be handed out to work on at home.
