Workshop Descriptions:

1) Introduction to Fingerstyle Blues (11:00 AM – 1:00 PM)

This is a great class for guitarists who want to fingerpick the blues. Mark introduces you to picking-hand requirements, shuffle rhythms, easy parallel-sixth movements all over the neck, and understanding the 12-bar blues form and its variations. Handouts include numerous exercises, plus your first two fingerstyle solos: Mark’s arrangements of “Before You Accuse Me” and “Hey, Hey,” both made famous most by Eric Clapton. Mark’s instructional DVD Blues Fingerstyle Guitar Solos will be available.

2) Intermediate Fingerstyle Blues (1:30  – 3:30 PM)

This class is great for learning the chords, positions, licks, and picking techniques required for playing great fingerstyle guitar solos. Mark shows you how to play (and understand!) blues chords all over the neck, characteristic parallel movements (3rds, 6ths and 10ths), and playing a melody with bass underpinnings. Plus Mark will teach you several solo fingerstyle blues tunes to take with you, including his new “Hesitation Blues” arrangement from his brand new 30th Anniversary Edition of Art of Solo Fingerpicking! Mark’s instructional DVD Blues Fingerstyle Guitar Solos will be available.
